I was going to try to make the case that Rose is a songwriting savant, but then I got worried people would think I was trying to say she was like Rainman. Then I was thinking maybe some kind of songwriting superhero because we all know she loves capes, but I’m not really feeling that one either. So I’ll just say that she’s p. awesome and has a bunch of great new songs on her soundcloud including the sensational bedroom bopp EP that you should listen to below.

OK, two songs out of twelve or something. In the last week. And she’s kind of funny too. You should probably just follow her on tumblr, soundcloud and whatever, then tell your friends because the only thing better than finding a cool new band is letting people know you did.
I tend to take for granted the relentless outpouring of creative talent from Rose Keeler-Schäffeler a.k.a. KEEL HER, and then I’ll check her soundcloud and there’s like a million new tracks. Stop making everyone else look bad, Rose. Nobody likes a showoff. Oh wait, yes we do.
can someone buy this fucken cape off me please already, i have like 4
capes. buy my fucken cape
its blessed by me?? whatevs. u get a free tape with the cape
OK, it’s not really “Cape Seller’s Blues” (we can only dream), it’s the cleaned up and fucking awesome version of “With Me Tonight” that KEEL HER just posted. OK, posted 10 days ago. The cape (and tape) however, is possibly still for sale over at Rose’s facebook.

i am really digging all this golden fuzz from the UK. KEEL HER has possessed my mind and soul. unfortunately my body is still mine.
All according to plan, ashumbleasjesus. As most artists will tell you, it all comes down to a little bit of talent, a lot of hard work, and of course, selling your soul to the devil.
If you were a bit overwhelmed by the 67 pages of songs on Rose Keeler-Schäffeler’s KEEL HER Soundcloud you can check out the much more organized Sets page where the songs are sorted by demos (by year), covers and three EPs.
Seemingly missing from those is the excellent new “tired of waiting,” a track that marries dreampop style vocals over a seething cauldron of driving psych-rock. I probably should have saved that “seething cauldron” bit for a witch house post though, right?

WEDDING ALBUM (ep#1) available @ RSM Bandcamp
Composed & recorded by KEEL HER in Wichester, Hampshire UK, bass overdubs, postproduction by R. Stevie Moore in Madison TN USA.
Most of KEEL HER’s songs are the trashy lo-fi jangle we’ve all come to know and (hopefully) love, but the atmospheric vocals and wall of instruments (including the driving bassline from R. Stevie Moore) push “I’d be Your Slave” in a convincingly lo-fi shoegaze direction.
I know I’ve been posting the shit out of her music lately but this kind of DIY ethic is like everything that’s good about the internet music scene, it’s the complete opposite of the kind of Lana Del Rey fake focus grouped product they try to feed you.

Sometimes I think I post too much KEEL HER but then I remember that there’s no such thing.

R. Stevie Moore has written and recorded and added basslines to some KEEL HER: ongoing + unfinished project 2012 xoXo
So you knew about the Ariel Pink & R. Stevie Moore collaboration, because Pitchfork and a bunch of other blogs have been hyping the shit out of it, but R. Stevie shows he truly has his finger on the pulse of the now by hopping on the hype train of everybody’s favorite new UK lo-fi agent provocateur KEEL HER.

hype hype hype.
It’s always exciting to find an up and coming artist just finding her sound and Rose Keeler-Schäffeler a.k.a. KEEL HER is brash enough to post her works in progress online for all to see and prolific enough that the trip is never boring. “riot grrrl” sounds a lot like a milestone in her young career, a heart-on-the-sleeve 80s tinged jam that tones down the fuzz (a bit) and turns up the hooks with sweetly processed vocals that are kind of impossible not to want to sing along to, but probably not in front of your mom.

There’s probably something to be said for holding your songwriting back, polishing and perfecting it until you’ve wrestled it into the perfect shape. That something would be “boring”. And that’s not anything you’d associate with Rose Keeler-Schäffeler a.k.a. KEEL HER who posts lo-fi pop gems buried under a mountain of overdrive and reverb to her soundcloud and youtube accounts with delirious frequency.

If you like lo-fi bedroom pop, and if you’re reading this there’s a good chance you do, then following the madly talented (or at least prolific) Rose “KEEL HER” Keeler-Schäffeler on Soundcloud would probably be a pretty good move. Just kidding, she totally is madly talented and prolific. ♥
You can check out her debut EP emanuel over at her Bandcamp and an actual physical copy on cassette over at Maximum VIolence Records.
