Daisy Chain Fridays finds Tim exploring shoegaze, bedroom pop and electronica on this collection of tracks from upcoming full-lengths on Bleeding Gold in the coming year.

This is like fuzzy lofi shoegaze pop, though the vocals are a little produced for that, with these totally disconcerting background vocals, like you’re on some weird acid trip where this crazy TGIF ad keeps bleeding through. The lo-fi duo from Moscow are making raw tribal noises. Guardians of the black new wave ritual side they produce sounds of bum quality and burn all around.

Mail like this makes me wish I had more time to do these, but this is from a split release with two Russian lo-fi experimental bands — Arabian Horses and Glina — published by Steak Au Zoo Records. “Wisdom” starts off with a wash of mic feedback which I guess goes to the bum quality side of the description, but the track itself is 18 minutes of meditative drone with tribal drums and enough lo-fi charm that it doesn’t drag. I just listened to a bit of the Glina (doom jazz sextet) tracks and it’s more abrasive as you’d expect but there are these great doomy spoken word style vocals that kept me listening. You can hear (and order) the whole thing over on the bandcamp.

The record is not so much a premeditated album in the traditional sense, but rather compilation materials from the band’s short history … a … chronicle of the bands explorations of the years 2008-2011.

The first single, “Elevators,” from Loss Leader was alright but I really like “Hide Me Dog” (and the David Ebel directed video). You can stream the rest of the record over on the bandcamp and delve into all things Crinkles on their website.

The song itself is pretty great, but I opened up their website while watching the video and it started playing another copy of the video and now I kind of want that same fucked up echoey mess to be the real song. I was going to post that new Soft Moon collab with John Foxx and was trying to think of a nice way to say “we’ll always have Paris,” basically, and saw this Holograms track on the same feed and it doesn’t make me hate things quite so much. Plankton Wat is the solo project of Dewey Mahood (Eternal Tapestry), along with Nick Binderman (Tunnels). Their new record, Spirits, is out this week via Thrill Jockey. A record release party will be held Saturday 5/19 at Little Axe Records, 5012 NE 28th & Alberta in Portland.

When a video starts off with a harmonium you pretty much know it’s going to be good and this super chill experimental ambient track doesn’t disappoint. Surprisingly, Plankton Wat have a facebook and there’s one of those album preview things on the soundcloud. Spirits is available from Thrill Jockey.
